Livingston Bridge
About Peace Tour Sites
Livingston Bridge, installed on the Soyang River, has a painful history of war. On June 10, 1951, the 3rd United Nations Army Corps, led by Lieutenant Livingston, who was engaged in North Korean military here during the Korean War, was retreated by an onslaught. However, there was no bridge to cross the river, and many company members were killed by the North Korean attack while the river was blowing due to flooding. Lieutenant Colonel Livingston, who died while leading the joint operation between South Korea and the U.S., left a will, saying, "Please build a bridge here," and after that, Mrs. Livingston spent her own money to build a bridge here. This bridge was called Livingston Bridge and is also called the Red Bridge because the bridge is painted red.
