About Peace Tour Sites

"Bimok" is a song that all Koreans have listened to. Located around the Peace Dam in Hwacheon-eup, Hwacheon-gun, Bimok Park was created to commemorate the souls of young unknown soldiers who were sacrificed during the Korean War and the birthplace of the song "Bimok." Han Myung-hee, the lyricist of "Bimok," served in the military in the DMZ of Baekamsan Valley in the mid-1960s. One day, he accidentally found an unknown warrior's rusty iron helmet and stone tomb in a weed-covered place, and wrote a song of "Bimok," thinking that the owner of the stone tomb was a young man like him during the war. After that, composer Jang Il-nam added a song to this song, and our favorite song "Bimok" was born. At the entrance of Bimok Park, there is a monument with the lyrics of the song "Bimok," and wooden crosses with rusty iron caps stand on a hill wrapped in barbed wire, reminding you of the pain of war and the mournful and heavy emotions contained in the lyrics of the song "Bimok."
